Text and lecture Mansoureh Aalaii
Place Palais de Tokyo, Paris
Publication in Flamme éternelle, Journal No 47
Thanks to Thomas Hirschhorn, Natasa Venturi
As contribution to the critical body created by the artist Thomas Hirschhorn in his exhibition “Flamme éternelle” at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, I decided to do a lecture of a text I’ve written about a life taking place in a mode of permanent absence. The structure, rhythm and language of this text recalls the rhetoric of political manifestos but the content is not political, it is a kind of existential monologue. It is about a confrontation with absence in its various aspects in life, like the missing of beloved friends, a sudden death or the isolation one can experience when being excluded of the society one lives in.
